Dear relatives, friends, brothers and sisters: Greetings!

Today we gather here with heavy hearts and deep sorrow to bid farewell to our beloved friend, distinguished educator, musician, and singer—Teacher Gao Weiliang. Teacher Gao Weiliang lived to the age of 85, completing a full, beautiful, and meaningful life.

Ms. Gao Weiliang was born in Taiwan and graduated from the National Taiwan Academy of Arts (now National Taiwan University of Arts). After college, she went to the United States for further studies, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree from Judson College and a Master of Music degree from the University of Mississippi (graduating with distinction). She first settled in the Scarsdale area and took root in the Chinese community of Westchester County. Through her outstanding music education and selfless dedication, she brought warmth to countless people and to our community.

As a professional soprano, Teacher Gao Weiliang’s artistic achievements were truly admirable. She performed as a soloist at Carnegie Hall (1981) and Lincoln Center (1983–1985), and released the albums *Memory* (1997) and *Phoenix Rising* (2004). She taught music in public schools for many years (1968–1999) and served as a voice teacher at the Westchester Conservatory of Music (1982–2002). Even after struggling for years with dystonia, she recovered her ability to sing through sheer perseverance and donated the proceeds from her performances to charity until her retirement in 2006. Her moving voice transcended Eastern and Western cultures, conveying boundless warmth and the power of love.

Even more commendable is that in 1981 Teacher Gao Weiliang founded the Chinese School of Southern Westchester. She served as principal (1981–1995), chair/member of the board (1981–1998), and from 1999 onward as lifelong honorary principal. For many years the school, located near Edgemont High School in Scarsdale, provided children with opportunities to learn Chinese and carry forward Chinese culture. It helped generation after generation of Chinese-American youth learn their mother tongue and understand their heritage, while also promoting cultural exchange in the community. Her remarkable vision and extraordinary perseverance made the Chinese School of Southern Westchester an important part of many families’ lives.

At the same time, in 2000 Teacher Gao Weiliang founded the Westchester Evergreen Club, providing a place for Chinese seniors to gather, learn, and enjoy recreational activities. She also served as chair of the Westchester Association of Chinese Americans (1997–1999). Her care for the elderly and her enthusiastic service to the community benefited many people. She received numerous honors, including the Organization of Chinese Americans Dynamic Achiever Award (1989) and the Chinese American Arts Council Art Achievement Award (1999), clear recognition of her contributions.

In the church and the community, Ms. Gao Weiliang was a long-time pillar. Through concrete actions she supported church ministry and community activities. Whether sharing music or promoting culture, she quietly gave of herself with a heart full of love. Her faith and actions became an example to many around her.

Teacher Gao Weiliang’s life shows us that the value of a life lies not only in personal achievements, but even more in how many people one has inspired with hope. She moved the world with her singing, passed on culture through education, and brought the community together with love. The seeds she sowed have long taken root and sprouted in countless families. Today, although we can no longer hear her kind voice, whenever children recite Chinese at the Chinese School of Southern Westchester, whenever seniors gather happily at the Evergreen Club, and whenever moving songs are heard in the community, we will think of her. What she left us is not only memories, but a love that can be passed down from generation to generation.

Dear Teacher Gao Weiliang, thank you! Thank you for using a lifetime of talent, wisdom, and love to leave such a precious gift for our community. Your singing may have ceased, but the melody of your life will forever echo in our hearts. May you lay down the burdens of this world and rest peacefully in the Lord’s embrace. May the Lord personally comfort your family, and may we carry on your love and dedication so that the beautiful seeds you sowed throughout your life continue to blossom and bear fruit. Teacher Gao Weiliang, we will always remember you! Thank you, everyone. Finally, may Teacher Gao Weiliang rest in the Lord.
